Libraries across Northern Ireland are inviting people of all ages to explore Irish language and culture this March as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge, with a lively programme of free events taking place in local libraries. The celebrations bring together storytelling, music, creative workshops and interactive sessions designed to welcome everyone — from complete beginners curious about trying a few words, to fluent speakers looking to enjoy cultural events in a relaxed setting.
Highlights from the programme include a special storytelling session with renowned storyteller Aodán ‘Jaff’ Mac Séafraidh in Portaferry Library on 9 March, where audiences can experience traditional tales brought to life through Irish. In Randalstown Library on 13 March, families can enjoy Lego Gaeilge: Build, Play, Learn!, a hands-on session combining creativity with language learning, while Whiterock Library will host an energetic Irish Dancing Workshop on 13 March led by professional performers.
Elsewhere, Glengormley Library will host Seachtain na Gaeilge Celebrations on 14 March, offering a welcoming introduction to the language, and Finaghy Library will mark the occasion with a St Patrick’s Day Card Making session on 16 March, giving children a chance to get creative while engaging with Irish words and phrases.
Alongside these featured events, libraries will host a wide range of additional activities including conversation circles, Storytimes, crafts and informal language tasters, providing opportunities for people to explore Irish in enjoyable and accessible ways within their local community.
All events are free, though some require booking. To find out more or to book your place, visit our events timetable or contact your local library.
